La Herradura derives its name from "The Horseshoe" The bay is formed by two headlands, The Cerro Gordo and The Punta Del La Mona these are interposed by a mile of beach. The town is situated on the beach road with many outside bars and restaurants. Water sports, tennis, walking, sailing, horse riding and hang gliding are some of the many activities that are available. Three golf courses are within a ˝ hour drive. There is also skiing on the Sierra Nevada in the winter, which is close to Granada and is approximately a 1 hour drive.
